So, remember when I talked about having a guy come and give us a quote on the cost to recoat our bathtub and tile surround? A solution I thought would be quick, easy, painless, and less work than demo-ing our bathroom?
Well, he came in and as each minute passed he pointed out more and more issues with the way our tile was originally installed, and how that was contributing to our water, moisture, and mold issues.
In other words, there was no recoating the tile - he'd have to rip it out and start new. You can't see it from these photos, but we actually do (did?) have issues in here. And we weren't sure what was going on behind the tile based on what we could see in front of it.
After much desperation, frustration, tears (from me), and some time to think, my favorite tall redhead decided to take on the job himself.
No sense paying someone to create this kind of mess when you can do it yourself for free. (Ha!) This morning, the bathroom shower surround is down to the studs. We have piles of backer board, tile, mastic, grout, and caulk waiting to be put to good use.
I will keep you posted. It's bound to be quite a ride. A ride we are limiting to two weeks, tops, because people... we have company coming and we'll be darned if this isn't done in time! Oh home ownership, you never cease to keep us on our toes...
