I am from lush sod lawns and friends down the street, from the sound of a neighborhood kickball game on the corner lot, and from "girls only" secret meetings.
I am from hamburgers on the grill on a hot summer evening, lemonade stands, and the smell of Tide wafting from the vents as the dryer spins into the night.
I am from lime green polka-dot stretch pants, baggy tshirts, and hair tied up in a fountain on top of my head.
I am from walking to Oma and Poppy's house for bagels on Sunday morning, from knocking on Gramma's back door for sugar, from long distance phone calls to cousins, and the sound of family gathering around for a BBQ.
I am from summer baseball with the lines spray painted on the empty field next door, from swollen mosquito bites, the smell of Coppertone sunscreen in the creases of my elbows, and staying out til the street lights come on.
I am from goodnight kisses, extra Chapstick by my pillow, just one more minute back scratches, and "Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite!"
I am from cut up fruit plates made by dad, movie nights in the basement way past our bedtime, Saturday morning chores, and riding bikes to the stop sign and back.
I am from the early morning screech of the ironing board, late night IM sessions with friends, and saving money in a coffee can.
I am from the 8th period math class with the bully, friends who switch sides, and breakup notes on lined paper with the left edge frayed.
I am from first kisses in the school bus turnaround, Thursday night youth group, and finding God in an arena with thousands of screaming teenagers.
I am from late night conversations by lamp light with Mom in the living room, from "just do your best", and "I will love you forever and for always".
I am from big dreams under a safe roof, the threat of "what if", and the challenge to live life courageously.
