Tile Is In!!!

*Update: I added the picture from Mr. Seconds, where we got our tile, down at the bottom of the post. Hopefully that will give a better idea of what the colors are supposed to look like. Apparently I need a crash course in photography!

Woot!!! After a weekend FULL of roadblocks, we finally have the tile in! Check out the condensed version below (p.s. I'm just about horrible at white balancing these photos, so the light makes everything look slightly different depending on the picture):

Laying everything out...

 The first few sections on...

Conquering the outlet!

More of Andy working hard...

Made it all the way to the other side!

Conquered the other outlet!

Proof that I helped, too :)

Setting the LAST piece! Woohoo!

We did it! (Some serious touch-up work on the cabinet will be necessary! That was all hiding behind an ugly rusted-out light before.)

A night shot with no flash. Probably will look brighter in the morning!

Accomplishment :)

The tiling took about four hours. Getting TO the tiling part... well, just ask Andy. Days!!!

Next up: painting the counters, new sink, and new faucet.

Also, a special thanks to Andy's dad who endured a forever-long Saturday of getting us through some crazy electrical issues, and hanging of drywall. We love you Papa!

*We got our tile at our local Mr. Seconds. It's called "Emperador 5/8" Glass-Stone Blend Mosaic Tile" and has more green/natural browns than whatever the heck is going on when I photograph it!

  2. I'm getting inspired!!!! It looks fantastic. Are the tiles in greens or natural browns....wasn't sure from the pictures? Either way they look great. I have the old fake brick looking stuff behind my stove and desperately need to do something. Glass tiles would work nicely but do you think the grout would clean-up from splatters made on the stove?

    1. Lora! Oh how I miss chatting DIY with you! Yes, the tiles are in greens and natural browns. We got the tiles at Mr. Seconds, as they were a few dollars cheeper per sheet than at home depot or lowes. I'm having the darndest time getting a true-to-life picture of the colors though! I'll attached a picture at the end of the post from the Mr. Seconds store so you can get an idea.

Also, I totally hear you on the splatters thing. What we've read is that if you seal the grout the stains should come right off. That's what we plan to do, so I will let you know how it holds up!
